For many, fall is the time of year to pull out cozy sweaters and admire the stunning colors of Quebec’s beautiful forests. For us, it’s also our favorite season to discover new local products by traveling through different regions in search of delicious finds. Here’s a tour of our favorite vineyards and cider houses to visit in Quebec during harvest season!

 

 

Eastern Townships

The Eastern Townships are the go-to region for wine lovers in Quebec. With the Wine Route connecting several renowned vineyards, it’s the perfect place to discover local flavors in a charming setting.

 

UNION LIBRE

The first producer of fire cider, UNION LIBRE is a must-visit in Dunham! Located along Quebec’s first Wine Route, this cider house and vineyard offers a complete range of original products, from sparkling cider to ice cider. We particularly love their fire cider, which pairs beautifully with a cheese board and features caramel notes. For a refreshing aperitif, their cider cocktail with fresh apple aromas is also an excellent choice.

In addition to mastering cider, UNION LIBRE also cultivates six varieties of white grapevines: seyval blanc, vidal, chardonnay, riesling, pinot gris, and gewurztraminer, producing dry and sparkling wines. Head there for a full tasting and a stroll through their stunning estate.

Vignoble de l’Orpailleur

A pioneer of viticulture in Quebec, Vignoble de l’Orpailleur is a must-visit in the region. Since 1982, it has been producing quality wines and offering an educational experience through its Viticulture Economuseum. During your visit, you can taste four products and receive a souvenir tasting glass bearing the vineyard’s logo. Conveniently located just a short walk from UNION LIBRE, you can easily enjoy both wineries in the same day.

Vignoble Le Ruisseau

Also located in Dunham, in the heart of the Eastern Townships, Le Ruisseau impresses not only with its wines and architecture but also with its innovation. This estate stands out thanks to a patented geothermal technology, a world first in winemaking, allowing them to protect the vines from Quebec’s cold while producing high-quality creations.

During a guided tour, you’ll visit their European-inspired cellar as well as tasting their excellent wines. Among their products, we especially love their pinot noir, and sparkling wines, but you’ll also find artisanal spirits made from apples, maple, and elderberry in their boutique.

Val Caudalies

You can’t explore the Wine Route without stopping at Val Caudalies vineyard. Founded in 2005 by three high school friends, this estate impresses with the diversity and quality of its products, sure to please every palate. We love their refreshing rosé and their fortified wine, perfect for cozy evenings. Their artisanal vermouth, with its herbaceous aromas, is also a must-have and the ideal local touch for cocktails that transported us back to sunny Andalusia.

Le Cep d’Argent

Known as a pioneer of sparkling wine production in Quebec, Le Cep d’Argent is one of our favorites in the Eastern Townships, offering excellence in every bottle. Founded by brothers François and Jean-Paul Scieur, originally from France’s Champagne region, this estate introduced the traditional champagne method to Quebec for crafting sparkling wines.

During your visit, you can experience this unique know-how with guided tours, tastings, and sabrage demonstrations, offering full immersion into the world of Quebec bubbles.

• La Réserve, an aromatic, lightly full-bodied red wine with woody and red fruit notes.
• Le Cep d’Argent, a lively, mineral white wine with soft pear notes.

Château Ste-Agnès

For a European vibe in the heart of the Eastern Townships, head to the magnificent Château Ste-Agnès, a historic vineyard dating back to 1846. During our visit, the estate offered tastings of their delicious dessert wines, including a late-harvest wine with peach notes (perfect with a cheese platter), and a French brandy-fortified wine with rich aromas of wild berries and licorice, ideal for charcuterie boards.

Beyond these treats, the breathtaking beauty of the site is unforgettable. Walking between the vines with the colorful mountains as a backdrop is the perfect recipe to experience a magical moment. Château Ste-Agnès is a must-visit to fully enjoy fall in the region!

Clos Saragnatl

If you’re looking for a romantic spot, you must add a visit to Clos Saragnat to your list! Located in Frelighsburg, we were charmed by this magnificent estate specializing in natural ciders and organic wines. The new owners, Gabrielle and Pierre, have just renovated everything, and it’s absolutely stunning!

They offer a great selection of dry ciders that you can enjoy on-site, at the bar or on the gorgeous back terrace. Among their excellent products, we particularly loved the Pira with its pear notes and the Astilbe, made with haskap berries. Open from Friday to Monday, it’s the perfect outing to enjoy fall while discovering high-quality local products!

Laurentians

Vignoble Rivière du Chêne

Nestled in the heart of the Lower Laurentians and producing high-quality wines for over 25 years, Vignoble Rivière du Chêne embodies the true spirit of Quebec viticulture. During your visit to their beautiful estate, you can taste their best wines while strolling through the vines or enjoy a gourmet meal at their bistro (offering breathtaking vineyard views). Guided tastings and picnic packages are available until mid-October, the perfect way to embrace the harvest season.

Vignoble La Cantina

Owned by the founder of Vignoble Rivière du Chêne, Daniel Lalande, Vignoble La Cantina is reflecting his passion and his desire to craft great wines in Quebec. Inspired by Italian vineyards, La Cantina’s wines are among our favorites for any occasion, particularly the Cantina Rouge and the Pinot & Co. On-site, you can enjoy a tasting of most of their products and even pick up charcuterie and cheeses for a picnic right in front of the vines.

La Bullerie

Located in Saint-Joseph-du-Lac, La Bullerie offers much more than just a wine tasting. Among the experiences offered, the picnic boxes are a perfect opportunity to enjoy a meal in nature, paired with a bottle of wine from the estate. Each basket features a selection of local products and a bottle to savor among the vines.

For Italian food lovers, their wood-fired pizzas are a must-try. Prepared with fresh ingredients, they pair wonderfully with La Bullerie’s wines, like our personal favorite, Lavinia, a sparkling white wine with fine bubbles and subtle notes of apple and lavender. In spring and fall, you can also enjoy a multi-course brunch at their on-site restaurant.

Quebec Region

Vignoble de Sainte-Pétronille

Along Île d’Orléans’ Flavor Trail, you’ll find the welcoming Vignoble de Sainte-Pétronille, offering stunning views of Montmorency Falls, Baie de Beauport, and Cap Diamant. We recommend stopping by in the late afternoon to enjoy a glass of Voile, their delightful white wine with notes of lemon zest and yellow apple. Otherwise, why not toast with a flute of their Brut sparkling wine as the sun sets over the vines?

Gaspésie

Vignoble Carpinteri

To feel like you’re in Italy during your next trip to Gaspésie with a stop at Vignoble Carpinteri in Saint-Ulric, before heading to Gaspé! Whether through their many European grape varieties or the stunning Tuscan-style villa decor, a full gastronomic journey awaits you! Wine tastings are free, and you can stroll through the vineyard at your leisure.

For a deeper experience, you can also stay at Villa Carpinteri and enjoy a gourmet meal prepared by their chef, paired with a curated wine tasting for each dish.

Montérégie

Cidrerie Michel Jodoin

Kicking off the apple picking season, we visited Cidrerie Michel Jodoin for a tasting of their ciders and artisanal products! For just $8, you can sample five different products in their elegant setting. From sparkling ciders to mistelle to apple brandy, there’s something for everyone!

If you have some extra time, you can even enjoy tastings on weekdays without reservations on a first-come, first-served basis. We still recommend calling ahead, but it’s a great way to enjoy a quieter experience.
